Did you know we can restore your teeth in a single day?

Tuesday, January 9th, 2018

If you need a new crown or you’re having trouble with a tooth you think may be broken, you may assume that it takes weeks to find a solution. In some cases, repairing a tooth can take a couple of weeks, but at Liverpool Dental Spa, we can offer same-day treatment. If you need results in a hurry, you’ve come to the right place!

Same-day tooth restoration at Liverpool Dental Spa

We understand that time is of the essence for our clients and we are delighted to offer same-day tooth restoration. We use an innovative form of technology known as Cerec to bring about incredible results in a single day. Cerec enables us to design, fabricate and fit new crowns, inlays, onlays and veneers in just one session.

Traditionally, when you need a new crown, for example, your dentist will create a putty mould which is sent away to the laboratory. A dental technician will craft the crown and then send it back to the dentist and they will then arrange an appointment to fit the new crown. With Cerec, we can take control of every stage of the process on-site, so there’s no need to send anything away or wait around for the new restoration.

Cerec uses images captured by a camera to create detailed impressions, which are used to form the template for your new restoration. These images are sent to the on-site milling machine, which takes control of the fabrication process. Within minutes, your restoration will be ready, and your dentist can place it immediately.

The benefits of Cerec

Cerec offers an array of benefits for dentists and patients, including:

  • Speedy treatment times
  • No mess and no putty impressions involved
  • No need for multiple appointments
  • Improved accuracy

If you’re keen to find out more about sensational Cerec, call us today and book an appointment!

Four Ways to Protect Your New Crowns

Friday, April 7th, 2017

When you have a tooth crowned, you want it to stand the test of time. If you have a new crown, here are four ways to protect your tooth:

  1. Maintain good oral hygiene: the best way to protect your teeth from harm is to maintain good oral hygiene at home. Although a crown cannot become decayed, the area where the restoration joins the natural tooth tissue can, so it’s essential to brush twice-daily and floss.
  2. Wear a mouth guard: if you’re playing sport, and there’s a risk of dental injury, always wear a mouth guard. Even if you’re just messing around or training, it’s essential to protect your teeth and gums. If you don’t already have a mouth guard, we strongly recommend investing in a dentist-made gum shield. These guards offer a perfect fit, and they’re very good quality. We recommend using a mouth guard for rugby, hockey, boxing, martial arts, kickboxing and lacrosse.
  3. Avoid hard foods: eating certain foods can damage your teeth, and your new crown will not be invincible. Avoid hard foods like boiled sweets and popcorn and don’t crush ice between your teeth. We also advise against using your teeth to bite labels off clothing or take tops off glass bottles.
  4. Check in with your dentist: we cannot stress the importance of seeing a dentist on a regular basis enough. If you keep up to date with check-ups, you have a much lower risk of dental disease. Every time you have a routine check, your dentist will have a good look at any fillings or crowns you have and make sure they’re in tip-top condition.

If you need any more advice about caring for crowns, our dental team will be happy to help.

How Cerec can restore a broken tooth in one day

Friday, February 24th, 2017

Have you broken your tooth? If so, you may think that it’ll take a couple of weeks to mend it. The good news is that at Liverpool Dental Spa, we offer same-day repairs thanks to incredible Cerec technology. If you need a crown in a hurry, you’ve come to the right place!

What is Cerec and how does it work?

Cerec, or Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, is a form of dental technology, which gives us the ability to offer same-day restorative treatment. With Cerec, we can design, make and fit new veneers, crowns, inlays and onlays in just one day. The best bit is we can do everything on-site, so there’s no waiting around.

Cerec technology covers every aspect of treatment. With this software and machinery, we don’t need to create putty impressions and send them away to the laboratory. We simply take photographs, which are converted into model templates for your new restoration. These detailed images are sent to the milling machine, and, as if by magic, your new restoration is made. We can then fit the new crown, and restore your beautiful smile.

What are the advantages for me?

The best thing about Cerec is the speed. The traditional technique of making a new crown takes two weeks. With this system, we can do everything on-site in a single day. Cerec is also a more accurate process, and it enables patients to have treatment without enduring the messy and somewhat uncomfortable process of making putty impressions. When you only need a single treatment session, this can also save you any stress related to taking time off work or trying to fit treatment around childcare or other commitments.

Cerec is also advantageous for dentists, as it enables us to have more control over the treatment process.

If you need a crown fast, call us now! We’re ready and waiting!

Chipped a Tooth Over Christmas? Tooth Repair Solutions

Friday, January 27th, 2017

If you’ve chipped or broken a tooth over the Christmas holidays, don’t panic. We have a range of solutions available to patch you up and restore your confidence.

Minor chips

Minor chips don’t usually cause any long-term dental problems, but they can affect the aesthetic of your smile, and therefore make you feel less confident. Thankfully, we are able to offer a highly effective remedy for chips and worn teeth. Composite bonding, also known as aesthetic or cosmetic bonding, is a single-session treatment, which can restore your smile to its former glory with no pain at all. Bonding is a technique we can use to build up worn surfaces, fill in chips and even reduce the size of gaps between the teeth. Your dentist will use dental material called composite to carry out minor repairs to the tooth in question. At room temperature, composite has a similar consistency to putty, and this means that your dentist can mould it to fit gaps perfectly. Your dentist will select the closest shade to your natural tooth colour to ensure the best possible aesthetics. When the composite is in the right place, it will then be set using a curing light. This makes it hard, and resistant to further damage. When your dentist has carried out any final adjustments, they will show you the fruits of their labour, and hopefully, you’ll be beaming again!

Broken teeth

If you think you may have broken a tooth, it’s advisable to see your dentist as soon as possible. If the tooth is broken, it’s best to try and repair or strengthen it, as leaving it may result in further damage and an increased risk of infection. If X-rays show that the tooth is fractured, we may recommend a new crown. Crowns are placed over the top of damaged teeth to make them stronger and more stable. Veneers may be another option worth considering for more extensive damage.

If you have a chipped or broken tooth, call us today and book a consultation. We’ll have you smiling again in no time at all!

Amazing Results with Porcelain Crowns

Strengthen broken down teeth with porcelain crowns from Liverpool dentists

If you have a tooth which is broken down or damaged you can rectify it by have a porcelain crown fitted by your Liverpool dentist. Smiling is very important in social occasions and you shouldn’t feel like you can’t do it because you have a tooth that you feel is unsightly and damaged.  Porcelain crowns are discreet and durable and compliment your existing teeth.

Damaged or broken down teeth do not function properly and can make eating and drinking more problematic.  Porcelain crowns can be fitted if there is not enough of the tooth to rebuild from.  If you have a number of problematic cavities on a tooth, porcelain crowns can protect them so you will not experience sensitivity while eating.

They can also be used to cover dull or stained teeth but teeth whitening procedures might be preferable here as they are less invasive than having a crown fitted.  Sometimes your dentist might have to shave off a quantity of your existing tooth in order for the crown to be fitted properly.  In the past, metal was used in crowns but they could produce dark lines against the gum.  Porcelain crowns avoid that problem and are very natural looking and discreet.

You might need to wear a temporary crown when the permanent one is being constructed but modern technology sometimes means that you no longer have to endure this wait and you can be fitted with your porcelain crown in just one visit to your dentist.

Crown Yourself This Christmas with a Remarkable Restoration

Wednesday, December 2nd, 2015

If you’re looking forward to celebrating like a VIP this Christmas, why not treat your troublesome tooth to a brand new crown? With same-day CEREC treatment and hand-crafted porcelain crowns on offer, we can ensure you have a smile fit for royalty this festive season.

What are crowns and why would I need one?

Crowns are a type of restoration most commonly employed when a tooth is broken, fractured or decayed. A crown is also known as a cap, as it sits over the top of the tooth. Crowns can be made from various materials and porcelain crowns are very popular as they restore the teeth without taking away from the beautiful aesthetic of your smile.

Crowns can also be used with dental implants to replace a missing tooth and they are often fitted following root canal treatment, when a tooth is decayed and harmful bacteria have reached the living tissue of the tooth, known as the pulp.

The main purpose of the crown is to strengthen and restore the tooth, but in many cases fitting a new crown can also have amazing aesthetic benefits.

Crowns are not a permanent solution, but they should last for many years. When you come for your routine dental checks, your dentist will have a look at any crowns you have to see how you are getting on.

Restorative Treatments For Patients In The City Of Liverpool

Tuesday, June 11th, 2013

Teeth easily become damaged and need to be restored with dental treatments to prevent oral infections, tooth decay and gum disease. There are many factors that contribute to teeth becoming damaged, including the effects of ageing.

Damaged teeth

Poor oral hygiene may lead to acidic bacterial build-up in saliva that erodes dental enamel, breaking down the tooth’s structure. Eating excessively sugary and acidic foods may have a similar effect.

Habits that weaken tooth makeup include incorrect teeth brushing technique, teeth grinding and smoking. Changing our habits may improve the condition of our teeth and gums.

Oral injuries from sport, accidents or assaults may also lead to damaged teeth that need treatment to prevent further oral trauma and illness. Wearing a mouth guard during sport may protect teeth from damage.

Restoring damaged teeth

At Liverpool Dental Spa in Liverpool we offer individuals choices in tooth restorations ranging from white fillings, inlays, onlays and crowns to dental bridges and implants.

Our porcelain crowns are particularly popular for restoring teeth following root canal treatment to remove infection, or to strengthen tooth structure. Teeth may chip, fracture or break causing further damage to gum tissue and bite function.

Having teeth restored with a dental crown, whether made of porcelain, gold or zirconium ensures that the existing tooth enamel is preserved and the inner tooth dentition protected from infection-causing bacteria. Damaged teeth, if left untreated, may lead to gum disease and tooth loss.

What are the Numerous Benefits Patients in Central Liverpool can Experience with Dental Implants?

Monday, July 30th, 2012

Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth and are an alternative to bridges or dentures for patients in Central Liverpool, which can cause pain if they are badly fitted or loose. Dental implants look and function like normal teeth and there is no need to change your diet or hygiene routine.

What is a dental implant?

Dental implants are a total replacement for a tooth, not just the visible part of the tooth but the root as well. They are inserted into a socket in the jawbone and are made from titanium, which is a very strong material that reacts well with the surrounding bone. In fact, the titanium implant and bone will fuse together in a process called osseointegration, which ensures that the tooth has a very strong and stable foundation. The operation is performed under anaesthetic, and there is a healing process of around six weeks when you will wear temporary teeth to help the healing. After this however, the new implant can last a whole lifetime!

What are the advantages of implants?

When a tooth is lost, this can often lead to damage to the surrounding jawbone material too, and the bone will eventually begin to atrophy if the tooth remains missing. In other words, the jawbone will begin to disappear. This is a problem for people with dentures, and jawbone loss can change the shape of the mouth, leading to a more aged appearance. However, dental implants, which fuse with the jawbone, can actually stimulate bone growth, removing this problem altogether. What’s more, implants require no change to be made to your eating or dental hygiene habits, as they function and look like other teeth. Implants are also made independently of other teeth, unlike with crowns, where healthy teeth may need to be treated too.

Liverpool Dental Patients can Receive Their Crowns, Veneers, Onlays and Inlays in Just One Day with Cerec Technology

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2012

Whenever you require a dental restoration such as a crown, veneer, inlay or onlay you usually have to wait several weeks for your personal restoration to arrive. After this you must return to the practice for a second set of injections to have your treatment.

However, at Liverpool Dental Implant and Aesthetic we use Cerec technology, which allows us to create high quality dental restorations in-practice. This cuts down the number of visits you need to make to the practice and also allows you to finalise the end results.

How does Cerec treatment work?

First you tooth is prepared for the inlay, onlay, crown or veneer, after which 3D images are taken of your teeth and mouth. These are a great deal more accurate than dental putty and also a lot less messy! The images are then fed into the computer, after which your personal restoration will be created from a pure block of ceramic.

It usually only takes 30 minutes to create a Cerec restoration, which is an awful lot faster than the usual 2 weeks it takes more most other practices! Once this has been created it will be fitted into place, after checking the colour and fit are perfect.

What are the main benefits of Cerec restorations?

  • You will only require one visit, meaning you won’t have to take more time off work and you will only need to have one injection.
  • You can oversee the work and ask for changes if you are not happy with the first restoration made. Correcting any problems will be easy, as all work is done on-site and will not have to be sent back to any outside laboratories.
  • You will not have to wait for your brand new, beautiful smile, with all treatment completed on the same day.

For patients in Liverpool interested in the Cerec treatment please call the practice today for more information.
