Tooth Whitening and Bleaching

Bleaching is a common and popular chemical process used to whiten teeth. Some people get their teeth bleached to make stains disappear, while other just want a whiter shade.
Bleaching can be performed by only your dentist in the surgery or, under dental supervision, at home. Many patients enjoy bleaching at home because it is more convenient
Is bleaching for you?
Consider tooth bleaching if your teeth are darkened. Discoloration occurs in the enamel and can be caused by medication, coffee, tea and cigarettes. Discoloration also can be caused by your genetic make-up or simply getting older.
What's involved?
First, the dentist will determine whether you are a candidate for tooth bleaching and what type of bleaching system would provide the best results. Here at Liverpool Dental Spas we have a bleaching menu for you to choose from.
Option 1 - The Enlighten tooth whitening system

Whitens teeth by up to 10 shades, brightening your teeth dramatically

Enlighten Tooth Whitening only works on natural teeth (enamel) and cannot change the colour of existing crowns, dentures, white or metal fillings or veneers. This is ideal as the first line of treatment to improving your smile as it is non invasive and does not damage the teeth.

How long does the whitening last?

The results are long lasting and cannot actively be reversed. If you are a smoker or drink lots of coffee, tea, red wine etc, the effects will darken slightly. Some patients have a top up treatment after 3 to 4 years.

The most effective tooth whitening system available today

The combination treatment can even whiten tetracycline stained teeth to B1 and beyond with minimal sensitivity and zero fade-back and minimal maintenance regime

It involves no high concentration gels, no machines, or lights, no ultraviolet protection, not even gingival barrier

The system overcomes all 3 limitations of current bleaching systems

  • Lack of predictability
  • Surgery Time
  • Sensitivity

The deep bleaching trays allow accelerated low sensitivity gels to condition the teeth in the home phase so that in office, gel can penetrate deeper and glue astonishing results with low concentration, fade-back and sensitivity

  • Step 1 – Conditioning…14 nights home whitening with deep bleeching trays and home Evolution home gel
  • Step 2 – Blast…1 hour in office blast on the 15th day using the same deep bleaching trays and office evolution gel
  • Step 3 – Maintenance…Smile x-whitening booster ampoules and single night tray wear every 3 months

Option 2 - Zoom Power Bleaching

Our most common remark - WOW! You also have the choice of adding some take home trays for future top- ups.

At Liverpool Implant & Aesthetic Dental Spa, we employ the Zoom 3. The Advanced Power Tooth Whitening System - as featured on the hit ABC-TV program Extreme Makeover - to provide you with sparkling white teeth and a glowing smile. For many dentists it's not just about getting teeth a certain number of shades lighter. Today's patients have expectations of getting their teeth white, really white and Zoom! Advanced Power delivers. With the Zoom! Advanced Power In-Surgery Tooth Whitening System, a pH balanced hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to your teeth that is activated by the special Zoom! Advanced Power lamp. In a little over an hour, you are on your way with a brighter, whiter smile.

Although a range of whitening options are now available, we believe dentist-supervised whitening is the safest and most effective procedure for lightening discoloured teeth.

Option 3 - Customised Take Home Bleach
If you don't choose power bleaching, our dentist will make impressions of your teeth to fabricate customized trays for you. The trays are custom made for your mouth and are lightweight so that it can be worn comfortably while you are awake or sleeping. The trays are so thin that you should even be able to talk and work while wearing them. Along with the trays, you'll receive the bleaching materials (gels). You'll be given specific instructions on use of these as this gel contains powerful whitening formulations. Then depending on your progress the amount of initial staining and amount of use a result is usually achieved in 3-4 weeks sometimes even within a fortnight.
How long does it last?
Lightness should last from one to five years, depending on your personal habits such as smoking and drinking coffee and tea. We recommend that you may choose to top up your bleaching once or twice yearly. This procedure may not be as costly because you can probably still use the same mouthguard. The retreatment time also is much shorter than the original treatment time.
Is it safe? Any side effects?
Several studies, during the past five years, have proven bleaching to be safe and effective. Some patients may experience slight gum irritation or tooth sensitivity, which will resolve when the treatment ends.In a recent research article 3 weeks of home whitening does as much damage as drinking one can of coke!
