Excellent Dental Care for the Whole Family

Monday, September 12th, 2016

Striving to provide communities with holistic dentistry care, Liverpool Dental Spa offers treatments for people of all ages.

Introducing infants to dental care

Our oral structures start to develop from birth. It is therefore important for infants to have a dental check-up so that they get used to dental care and to ensure that they are developing as they should.

Prevention of tooth decay and gum disease

Every member of the family is vulnerable to developing tooth decay or gum disease. Dentists and dental hygienists provide advice about oral hygiene practices and nutritious eating for stronger and healthier teeth and gums.

Six monthly dental check-ups enable a dentist to identify early signs of oral decay or disease. Emergency dentistry care is available for sudden oral trauma, including tooth ache and knocked out teeth. Seeing a dental hygienist ever three months for teeth cleaning, scaling and polishing helps to remove plaque and tartar where tooth brushes may not reach on a daily basis.

Orthodontic care

As toddlers develop milk teeth that are gradually replaced by permanent ones, orthodontic conditions may arise. Teeth may grow crooked or irregularly spaced. These conditions including protruding and overcrowded teeth may be treated with modern braces systems designed to improve oral function and facial aesthetics. Adults may similarly need teeth straightening and treatment for jaw disorders or bruxism.

Teeth replacement options

We offer choices in artificial teeth replacement for one or more missing teeth from tooth decay, gum disease or oral trauma. These natural looking options include crowns, bridges, dentures and dental implants. Dental implants act as replacements for tooth roots to which tooth restorations may be anchored for greater control over oral functions and a beautiful smile.

Dentures vs. Dental Implants

Thursday, August 18th, 2016

At Liverpool Dental Spa, we are proud to offer the latest treatments for missing teeth, including dental implants and modern dentures. We recommend replacing missing teeth for many reasons, from improved quality of life and enhanced facial aesthetics to better oral health.

Our treatments

We offer a range of tooth replacement treatments, including dentures and dental implants.

Dental implants are one of the most exciting developments in modern dentistry. They provide a long-term solution for missing teeth and offer the same level of functionality as natural teeth.

Dentures have been used for many years and are a tried and tested method. They are sets of false teeth designed to restore full function to the mouth and improve the aesthetic of the smile. Modern dentures are very lifelike and boast excellent standards of functionality.

Which is better: dentures or dental implants?

It is hard to say which is better, as patients have different needs and one treatment might suit one patient better than another.

Dental implants are advantageous because they last a long time, they recreate the aesthetic and role of the natural teeth and they also help to reduce bone loss. Implants are a more expensive treatment option, but they last a lot longer than dentures and dental bridges, they are easier to maintain and there are no problems with the denture becoming loose or irritating the gums.

Dentures can be beneficial for patients who have a large number of missing teeth and they are a more affordable option than dental implants. Modern dentures are much lighter and more lifelike than dentures of old and they can really make a difference to your quality of life.

If you are interested in restorative treatment and would like to find out more about dentures and dental implants or discuss your options with one of our friendly dentists, contact reception today to book a consultation.

The Benefits of the Dental Implant Process

Tuesday, August 16th, 2016

Dental implants are a dentistry solution for people with missing teeth to have one or more replacement tooth roots inserted. Nowadays, people with dentures, bridges and crowns can choose a more stable, natural tooth replacement treatment with dental implants.

Dental implants are titanium-made posts or screws to which artificial replacement teeth are anchored. These titanium posts are inserted through the gum tissue and securely fitted. Over time these posts permanently fuse with the jaw bone structure through a process called osseointegration.

Diagnostic tests for patients enable dentists to identify jaw bone suitability for dental implants. If too narrow the jaw bone may need to be strengthened through bone augmentation procedures. In some cases, a sinus lift may be necessary to create enough space for dental implant insertion without impacting the sinus cavity.

Dental implant software enables the dentist to specify exactly where the dental implants are to be inserted. A tiny incision is created within the gum and a flap of gum tissue lifted, at which point the dental implant is inserted. A small drill is used to gently create a carefully-measured space within the jaw bone for insertion of the titanium post, custom-made for the patient’s treatment and their dental and jaw dimensions.

The dentist then inserts temporary or immediate dental implants into the space made within the jaw bone. The insertion site is treated and then left to heal for a period of six weeks to six months. The recovery time for the bone to start fusing and the gum tissue to heal is different for each person depending on their health condition and rate of healing.

The process may take longer if a bone graft is necessary to build up the jaw bone density first, or if a sinus lift is needed to protect the sinus cavity. Once healed, permanent dental implants are fitted and anchored with natural-looking replacement teeth.

Gaps In Your Smile? This Could be the Solution!

Friday, August 12th, 2016

Tooth loss can happen for a number of reasons, including injury, tooth decay, or just general ageing. If a tooth is lost, it is important to have the gap filled in some way, or the effects could end up causing you further pain.

Effects of untreated tooth loss

Oral hygiene is much more difficult if a gap is left in your teeth and bacteria can build up in the space, leading to bad breath and infection. In addition, losing teeth can affect your speech function, as well as the ability to eat the foods you want, as you simply would not have the teeth to bite or chew. An even more serious consequence is bone loss. As your teeth sit in your mouth, the tissue surrounding them is regenerated as part of your body’s normal healing process. However, if you lose a tooth and leave a gap, the material – including the bone – around the gap will start to atrophy. In other words, the bone will start to disappear. This can change the shape of your jaw, and contribute to you looking more aged.

Dental implants

Thankfully, dental implants can help stop these problems. Dental implants are small metal rods inserted into the jaw structure, which help to hold replacement teeth in place. The implants are made of titanium, which easily fuse with the bone structure in your jaw. Rather than a loss of bone, as would happen with a gap in teeth, an implant helps stimulate bone growth. In addition, implants can function just like your own teeth, allowing you to speak and eat as normal. They only require the same oral hygiene routine as your other teeth, and will allow you to have a natural looking and feeling smile.

Dental Implants to Restore Your Smile

Friday, June 10th, 2016

Dental implants are a way of replacing missing teeth. There are a number of ways and methods in which implants can be fitted and they can vary from patient to patient. This blog looks at root-form implants and plate-form implants.

Root-form implants

Sometimes referred to as root-form endosseous implants, these tooth implants are connected to the bone of your jaw. It is then possible for singular or multiple implants to be installed. The root-form process is a common method of implants and can be in two forms – screw or cylinder. These implants work through a small screw or cylinder that is inserted into the gum and then fuses with the jaw bone during the healing process. Once healed there is a fixture is attached that will connect the new teeth. One of the first procedures will be to make incisions into the area of the gums that are receiving the treatment.

During this time the dentist will insert the implant device then stitch the area shut. This healing process can take up to six months, during which the implant will begin to fuse to the jaw bone. When you return your dentist will check the screw or cylinder has attached itself to the bone by opening the previous wounds, once they are satisfied they will proceed to attach a fixture that will allow the replacement teeth to be attached. Root-form implants are very common but they rely on the jaw bone being dense enough to hold the implant. If your dentist feels the jaw bone is too narrow they can offer an alternative treatment.

Plate-form implants

The plate-form implants are initially intended for patients whose jaw bone may be too narrow for a root-form implant. These are flat and long plates that can be attached to the bone of the jaw. The installation and treatment process is very similar way to the process of root-form implants.

The Facts About Dental Implants

Tuesday, April 12th, 2016

Dental implants have revolutionised oral function control for those with artificial teeth. People who have lost one or more teeth can use dental implants to secure a denture, bridge or crown.

The ultimate missing tooth replacement

There are plenty of causes for tooth loss, including tooth decay, gum disease and oral trauma. No matter what the reason, the gap left by a lost tooth places pressure on the remaining teeth and can make them more likely to move out of their original positions. Suitable replacements for missing teeth include crowns, bridges and dentures, each of which can be anchored by dental implants to provide the strength and stability of a natural tooth.

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a small titanium post inserted into the jaw bone to replace a missing tooth root. The implant fuses with the natural jawbone through a process called osseointegration.

Dental implant suitability

Our implant dentist will assess your oral health to make sure you’re suitable for dental implants. Not everyone is a good candidate as the treatment depends on good jawbone health and density. Sometimes, bone augmentation or sinus lifting can be carried to enable implant insertion.

Natural-Looking Implants: a Long Term Solution for Missing Teeth

Wednesday, February 10th, 2016

At Liverpool Dental Spa we offer a range of tooth replacement treatments, including natural-looking dental implants.

Dental implants represent a long-term solution for lost teeth and enable you to enjoy all the same benefits of strong and healthy natural teeth.

All about dental implants

Dental implants are made from titanium and their purpose is to replace the root of a missing tooth. The implant is fitted into a socket in the jaw bone and it is able to become part of the bone tissue thanks to a process called osseointegration.

Once the process is complete, a new restoration can be attached and this replaces the crown section of the tooth. One of the many benefits of dental implants is that they are compatible with a range of different restorations and this means that they are suitable for most patients.

Implant treatment takes between 3 and 9 months and the result is a natural looking, strong and functional new tooth or set of teeth.

What are the advantages of dental implants?

Dental implants are the best long-term option for replacing missing teeth and they also offer many additional benefits, including excellent aesthetics, enhanced bite power and durability. Implants are easy to maintain and they act like natural teeth, so you can have complete peace of mind and enjoy eating and socialising with confidence. Implants also help to reduce bone loss and can be fitted to crowns, dentures or a dental bridge, making them hugely versatile.

Marvellous Missing Teeth Treatments

Tuesday, January 26th, 2016

Injuries, accidents, ageing and oral disease can all contribute to an elevated risk of tooth loss. If you’ve lost a tooth or have a number of missing teeth, we have an extensive range of options to replace your teeth and restore your beautiful smile.

Our tooth replacement treatments include dentures, dental implants and dental bridges.

Dentures

Dentures are the longest-serving tooth replacement treatment. These sets of prosthetic teeth, which are made from acrylic and plastic, are a popular choice for replacing full sets of teeth, but can also be used as a substitute for a small number of teeth. In this case, a partial denture is used.Dentures are custom-made and can usually be fitted two weeks after the consultation. Dentures do last a long time, but may have to be adjusted or replaced as the shape of the mouth changes constantly and this means that the fit of the denture may need to be modified.

Dental implants

Dental implants offer patients with single or multiple missing teeth a long-term, highly effective solution. Implants are small titanium posts secured into openings in the jaw bone. They are able to integrate into the bone tissue to replace the tooth root and anchor the new restoration with incredible levels of stability. Implants are compatible with bridges, dentures and single crowns and are built to last a lifetime. They are more expensive than other treatments, but last a lot longer.

Dental bridges

Dental bridges are a popular solution for a single missing tooth. They are more affordable than dental implants and treatment usually only takes two sessions. Bridges are custom-made for the individual using precious metals or ceramics and made up of a false tooth anchored by a new crown on each side. Once a bridge is in place, it should last for around 10-15 years. For a natural look, we recommend porcelain bridges, as they match the colour of the natural teeth perfectly and therefore you can’t tell the difference between the false tooth and the rest of the teeth.

Mini Dental Implants Produce Massive Results

Tuesday, May 12th, 2015

If you’re looking for a mini treatment that makes a massive impact on your smile, look no further than mini dental implants. These implants may be small in stature, but they really pack a punch when it comes to benefits for your oral health and confidence. If you have multiple missing teeth and you’re searching for a solution, mini implants could be the golden ticket.

What exactly are mini dental implants?

Mini dental implants, as you may have guessed from the name, are smaller versions of traditional implants. As these implants are smaller, they are even easier to tolerate than regular implants and this makes them a suitable option for some patients who have been advised against traditional implant treatment due to a lack of strong, dense bone tissue in the jaw. Mini implants are compatible with bridges and dentures and they can also be used for single tooth restorations with crowns.

Implants are an innovative solution for tooth loss, which works on the basis of replacing the tooth root. The implant sits in the jaw bone like a healthy root and provides stability for the tooth crown, which is replaced using a bridge, crown or denture.

The benefits of mini dental implants

Mini implants are often more versatile than traditional implants because they are smaller and this means that they are suited to a wider range of patients, including those who are unable to tolerate larger implants. The procedure to fit a mini implant is less invasive and treatment can be carried out in a single day, rather than taking months. Mini implants also offer amazing aesthetic and functional benefits for patients with tooth loss. These include a natural looking smile, the ability to eat and enjoy a healthy diet, improved confidence, a more youthful facial aesthetic and clear speech.
