Bridge the Gap and Replace Your Missing Tooth

Monday, February 22nd, 2016

At Liverpool Dental Spa we understand that losing a tooth can be very distressing, not just because it makes your smile look less attractive, but also because it makes day to day functions, such as talking and eating, more difficult. Thankfully, we have a range of options available to restore your smile and increase your confidence. One option we offer is a dental bridge.

What is a dental bridge?

A dental bridge is a form of restoration used to replace a missing tooth. We always recommend replacing missing teeth because gaps in the mouth increase the risk of oral disease and often, they cause the neighbouring teeth to start to move out of position. A dental bridge is made of a false tooth, which is called a pontic, fused to two crowns. The bridge is anchored by the neighbouring teeth and once in place, the false tooth looks exactly like a natural tooth.

Types of dental bridge

There are different types of dental bridge available. Most commonly, the bridge you choose will depend on the location of the gap. The most frequently used bridge is a traditional fixed bridge, however if you have a gap at the front of your mouth, you may be advised to consider a Maryland or resin-bonded bridge. If you have healthy teeth on one side of the gap only, a cantilever bridge may be recommended. In this case, the bridge is attached to two crowns on one side of the gap.

Dental bridges can be made from a variety of materials, including precious and non-precious metals and ceramics, or a combination of both. Ceramic fused to metal bridges are popular because they are strong and hard-wearing, but they blend in with the natural teeth for a realistic aesthetic.

Advantages of dental bridges

Dental bridges are more affordable than dental implants and are designed to last a long time. They are also aesthetically pleasing and restore function to your mouth so you can enjoy good oral health and eat and speak without experiencing any difficulties.

Monday, February 8th, 2016

Whether you’re a Hollywood super fan or you’d simply like to give your smile a touch of red carpet glamour, we can help! We offer the latest cosmetic dental treatments to create stunning smiles.

Our cosmetic dental treatments

We are always on the lookout for new and improved dental treatments and work hard to ensure our clients can benefit from the very best treatments. Our cosmetic treatments cater for a wide range of aesthetic problems, from stained teeth to chipped and broken teeth and we have treatments available to transform any smile.

Our treatments include porcelain veneers and crowns, white fillings, cosmetic bonding, gum reshaping, teeth whitening and cosmetic braces. We also offer amazing smile makeovers that guarantee amazing results.

How can I benefit from cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry has many benefits. Although the primary aim of cosmetic treatment is to improve the look of the smile, this can have a really significant impact on confidence and improved self-esteem is a really positive side-effect. When you smile, you should feel confident, rather than conscious of how your teeth look or what other people think. If you’re unable to smile with confidence, cosmetic dental treatment can really help.

If you look in the mirror or stare at photographs and notice yellow teeth, chips, jagged edges or worn surfaces, gaps between your teeth or crooked teeth, cosmetic dentistry can help and you don’t have to have an A-list budget to afford treatment.

How does a smile makeover work?

Smile makeovers consist of a series of individual cosmetic treatments that work together to create a perfect new smile. Treatments that are commonly used during a makeover include veneers, cosmetic braces, whitening and cosmetic bonding. However, the type of treatments you choose will depend on several factors, including your budget, how much time you have available for treatment, your oral health status and the issues you want to treat.

Amazing Results with Porcelain Crowns

Strengthen broken down teeth with porcelain crowns from Liverpool dentists

If you have a tooth which is broken down or damaged you can rectify it by have a porcelain crown fitted by your Liverpool dentist. Smiling is very important in social occasions and you shouldn’t feel like you can’t do it because you have a tooth that you feel is unsightly and damaged.  Porcelain crowns are discreet and durable and compliment your existing teeth.

Damaged or broken down teeth do not function properly and can make eating and drinking more problematic.  Porcelain crowns can be fitted if there is not enough of the tooth to rebuild from.  If you have a number of problematic cavities on a tooth, porcelain crowns can protect them so you will not experience sensitivity while eating.

They can also be used to cover dull or stained teeth but teeth whitening procedures might be preferable here as they are less invasive than having a crown fitted.  Sometimes your dentist might have to shave off a quantity of your existing tooth in order for the crown to be fitted properly.  In the past, metal was used in crowns but they could produce dark lines against the gum.  Porcelain crowns avoid that problem and are very natural looking and discreet.

You might need to wear a temporary crown when the permanent one is being constructed but modern technology sometimes means that you no longer have to endure this wait and you can be fitted with your porcelain crown in just one visit to your dentist.

Custom-Made, Comfortable Dentures That Look Like Real Teeth!

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Dentures are a very popular treatment for patients who have missing teeth. We offer partial dentures, to replace a few missing teeth, or full denture to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Our modern dentures are functional and very lifelike, to give you a beautiful smile and a healthy, strong set of teeth.

About dentures

Dentures have been around for many years. They act as replacements for missing teeth and can be used to replace some or all of the teeth. Dentures have come a long way since the very early models and the dentures we offer are light, lifelike and very impressive in terms of function, fit and durability. We custom-make all our dentures to ensure a perfect fit, enhance comfort and reduce the risk of irritation.

By replacing the natural teeth, dentures enable you to enjoy a healthy looking smile as well as ensuring that you can speak clearly and chew food properly. Dentures also provide support for your cheeks and lips, improving the overall facial aesthetic.

Care and maintenance

Once you have your dentures, there are some simple steps to follow to keep them clean, reduce your risk of oral health problems and prevent damage. When you are not wearing your denture, ensure that it is kept in a safe, dry place and take time to clean your dentures. You can do this by using a cleaning solution.

We recommend frequent check-ups so that we can keep an eye on the fit of your denture and check for any signs of wear or damage. The shape of your gums is constantly changing and this means that dentures do have to be replaced from time to time. If you feel that your denture is starting to get loose or it is causing you discomfort, we will be able to help by making repairs or replacing the denture.

Learn More About Composite Bonding

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016

If you’re searching for a solution to chipped or worn teeth or gaps between your teeth, dental bonding could be the golden ticket. This simple procedure produces amazing results very quickly and there’s no need for needles or the dreaded dental drill!

What is composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure used to repair individual teeth and make changes that have an incredible impact on the aesthetic of the smile. This treatment is suited to patients with cosmetic imperfections such as chipped and worn teeth, jagged edges, misshapen teeth and gaps between the teeth. It represents an alternative to veneers and cosmetic braces.

The bonding procedure involves using a putty like material called dental composite, which is matched to the shade of your teeth and builds up surfaces, improves the shape of a tooth, closes gaps between teeth and repairs chips. Your dentist will shape and craft the composite and when they are satisfied with the placement of it, they will set it using a curing light.

The entire procedure usually takes less than an hour and there’s no pain involved, so you don’t have to put up with needles and injections. You can simply relax and get ready to see your new smile.

What are the advantages of composite bonding?

Composite bonding is a simple, safe, affordable and highly effective solution for slightly damaged, worn teeth and small gaps between the teeth. The changes your dentist will make to each individual tooth may be minor, but the overall impression will be amazing and you’ll be staggered at the difference this quick and painless treatment can make to your smile and your confidence.

Everything You Need to Know About Gum Contouring and Tooth Re-Shaping

Thursday, December 24th, 2015

Very few people have perfect teeth, but thankfully we have some incredible techniques that can help to improve the appearance of your smile. Whether you have a gummy smile or your teeth are looking a little run-down, worn or uneven, we can help!

About gum contouring

Gum contouring is a technique that we use frequently to treat gummy smiles. A gummy smile is the name given to the look of the smile when the gums cover a larger than normal portion of the tooth crowns. Although a gummy smile won’t cause you any physical pain, the teeth may appear small and you might feel self-conscious about the look of your smile. Gum contouring, also known as gum reshaping, can help to expose more of the tooth crowns, improving the balance of the smile by making the teeth look slightly longer. Contouring is usually a single-session treatment; simply remove very tiny portions of the gum tissue and reshape the gums to create a more attractive aesthetic.

What is tooth re-shaping?

Tooth re-shaping is a cosmetic technique that involves altering the shape of the teeth very slightly to create a more attractive looking smile. This technique is perfect for those who have teeth with worn or uneven edges, chips and some teeth slightly larger than others. Contouring improves the overall look of the smile and will ensure that you feel confident when you smile and speak in public.

Our cosmetic dentists are experienced in these techniques and use their expertise and creativity to produce truly stunning results.

If you’re not happy with the look of your smile and are interested in finding out more about simple techniques that will leave you beaming from ear to ear, call us today!

Terrific Technology with CEREC Restorations

Friday, December 4th, 2015

At Liverpool Implant and Aesthetic Dental Spa, we’re big fans of technology and are always eager to invest in new innovations to bring our clients the best treatments on the market. CEREC is a terrific form of technology that enables us to offer same-day bespoke restorative treatment. Whether you need repairs in a hurry or want to enjoy the many benefits of treatment straightaway, CEREC could be an ideal option for you.

What is CEREC and what’s so good about it?

CEREC is a form of technology that allows us to complete the process of restoring the teeth in a single day. With CEREC, we can design, fabricate and fit a brand new crown, veneers, onlay or inlay in just one session, so there’s no hanging about, no temporary restorations and no need to book time off work.

CEREC treatment works by taking images of the teeth and using advanced software to convert them into templates for the new restoration. These virtual templates are sent to the on-site milling machine and the fabrication process begins. In just a couple of minutes, the milling machine creates a brand new, bespoke restoration. Once this process is complete, your dentist can then fit the restoration and you can see the results for yourself.

Traditionally, restorative treatment involves creating putty impressions, which are sent away to a laboratory where the restoration is made by a dental technician. This process usually takes around 2 weeks. With CEREC, we can do everything on-site and this saves a great deal of time as your new restoration will be ready on the same day. There’s also no need to fit a temporary restoration. In addition to time saving, dentists can also enjoy greater involvement in the design process and can guide you through the process step by step so you always know what’s going on.

If you’re interested in CEREC treatment and would like to find out more, simply give us a call and arrange a consultation.

Porcelain Perfection with Veneers

Thursday, June 4th, 2015

If you’re in pursuit of the perfect smile, porcelain veneers won’t let you down. With our beautifully crafted porcelain veneers, we can give you the smile you’ve always dreamt of. Call us today to book your consultation!

About porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers can be used to correct a whole host of cosmetic imperfections, including chipped teeth, worn teeth, gaps between the teeth, discolouration, staining and fractured teeth. These ultra-light shells, which are expertly crafted to look like natural teeth, are placed on top of your teeth to create a completely new aesthetic. We can fit individual veneers or complete sets, depending on your treatment needs and preferences.

Porcelain is an excellent choice of material because it is strong and durable, it matches the shade of healthy teeth and it has a stunning luminescence, which produces a healthy shine.

What does veneer treatment consist of?

Before the veneers are placed, the teeth are prepared. This involves gentle etching to remove a very thin layer of the surface of the tooth. This stage is necessary to create space for the veneer and also to facilitate the bonding process. Once the teeth have been prepared, the dentist will apply dental putty to make impressions of your teeth and these will be used as the blueprints for your veneers. Once your bespoke veneers are ready, they are bonded onto the surface of the tooth and then secured firmly. Your dentist will then show you your brand new smile and talk to you about how to care for your veneers.

If you dream of a perfect smile this summer, call us today and let’s start making your dreams come true!
